Winning the toss Pakistan skipper Misbah Ul Haque invited India to bat first. The weather was cloudy and due to rain in last two days the pitch was under cover and wet. From there Shuresh Raina and Dhoni rescued India with a partnership of 73 runs when the latter was dismissed by Mohammad Hafiz. Dhoni then had another partnership with Ashwin taking India to 227 runs. He scored an unbeaten 113 runs of 125 balls. Junaid Khan was most impressive with 4 for 43 at the end of the match. Mohammad Irfan gave perfect support to Junaid taking a wicket for just 15 runs in his opening spell though in the end he ended up giving away 58 runs in his 9 overs. Hafiz also bowled really well taking 1 wicket giving away just 26 runs in his 10 overs.

From there Younis Khan along with Nasir jamshed rescued them with a partnership of 112 runs when the former was dismissed by Ashok Dinda. Misbah scored 16 runs before he was bowled by Ishanta Sharma and Malik remains unbeaten scoring 34 runs. Bhubenashar Kumar bowled brilliantly for his 2 for 27. India was a bowler short as they went out with 4 regular bowler and for that they suffered badly as on those quota of 10 overs they had given away 77 runs in the middle overs and lost chance of tightening things up. Dhoni was declared Man of the match for his brilliant knock.
Match Preview: The 1st ODI between India and Pakistan starts on Sunday, 30th December 2012 at 9am IST.After 5 years once again two arch-rivals re-established are facing each in a bilateral one day series. For the two nations cricket is more than just a sport. After Mumbai attack in 2008 India had always been refusing to play Pakistan in a bilateral series. Though, they played 3 matches in different tournaments from 2010 to 2012. For this reason the cricket fans around the world have been deprived of exciting cricket of these two countries for five years. The T20 series was level at 1-1 and both the match was decided in the last 2 balls of the match proving how exciting a match between these two countries would be. Now it’s time for the One day series where Pakistan have edge over India. Both the team faced each 126 times where Pakistan have won 69 times and India on 48 occasions and there was no result in 4 matches and the rest 5 had been abandoned. In India they played 29 times where Pakistan won 17 times, India 10 times and there was no result in other 2 occasions. Among the current squad of both the teams Shoaib Malik is the most successful batsman with 4 centuries and for India Virendar Shehwag has 2 centuries.
India- India is very much inconsistent since they have won the World Cup 2011. Even their recent record is very poor in ODIs. The main problem for them is the bowling. More specifically the fast bowling is the worst of all. After the retirement of Javagal Srinath they never had a good quality fast bowler. Though they got some talented bowlers like Irfan Pathan, Zahir Khan, Ashish Nehra but none managed to show consistency. In spin department they are yet to find a perfect replacement of Anil Kumble. Batting has never been a matter of worry for India. But the retirement of great Shachin Tendulkar will give a moral boost to their opponent. But they got talented players like Shuresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Sing who can win the match alone on their day.
Pakistan- Pakistan on the other hand though brilliantly consistent in test but inconsistent in one day cricket. In recent time they won the Asia Cup but lost the series against England and Australia. They been to semi final of the world cup and also won series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The main strength of the team is the bowling. The visitors have got one of the best bowling attack in the world. They never was short of fast bowlers and even after the retirement of the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqer Younis and losing talented Mohammad Amir in spot fixing scandal still got planty of resources in fast bowling. Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Wahab Riaz have proved themselves already and they have got more talented fast bowlers like Mohammad Irfan, Haris Sohail, Zulfiqur Babar in the squad to add variety in the fast bowling department. They also have got spinners like Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Hafiz, Shoaib Malik. Though they will miss the service of Shahid Afridi who wasn’t selected for off form. Batting will be more stable with Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haque and Imran Farhat joining the squad.
So this is going to be another exciting series between the two rivals and we are ahead of some more good cricket ahead.
